I'm back - new videos, new sections, life update & AI thoughts

Hey guys, it’s been a while!

Thought I’d say hello and send out some things you might have missed.

Recent videos & new sections on my store

1. Different FAQ for each product

You might have an FAQ section on your product pages, but it’s showing the same content for all your products. Here’s how to make it show unique content for each product.

⚡ NEW Dynamic FAQ Block for Horizon themes ($20)

As I explain in the above video - Horizon themes lack a critical feature for linking the FAQs to the Metaobject. So I’ve built a custom block that lets you do the same thing.

It generates an accordion with FAQs that are unique to each product.

2. How to generate & add FAQ Schema to Shopify pages

Another one on FAQ’s. Why? Because FAQs are a great format for both Google and AI SEO. They directly answer questions that people may be asking.

This video shows you how to generate the FAQ Schema (Structured data) code that is read by Google and other bots.

⚡ NEW FAQ Schema Section ($10)

This section is a more convenient way to generate the code from the above video. Just add the section to your template, fill out the fields, and you’re done.

3. Category Metafields Tutorial

Shopify’s category system is still not well-understood and many stores aren’t using them efficiently. In this video I explain the purpose, what they can do, and how “category metafields” are different from the older “product metafields”.

Personal update + thoughts on AI

Some of you may know I spent 2025 as a digital nomad, travelling around Asia. My favourite place was Japan, where I spent 5 months in total.

This year, I’m back in my hometown of Sydney, Australia and will probably stay here for the next year or so. Although I will definitely be attending Colive Fukuoka in October.

More importantly,

I’m back to doing more freelance work.

From 2023-24 I was focused mainly on content creation. I thought the future of my career was just doing YouTube. But I’ve changed my mind about this.

What bothered me is I felt like I was losing my skills as a developer, and even as a consultant. Even though I was keeping up with industry news and updates, it just doesn’t keep you as sharp as doing real work. It’s important to get your hands dirty.

That’s why I’m allocating more of my week to freelance work from now on. If you’re looking for a Shopify developer or technical support, check out my services page.

But aren’t developers being replaced by AI?

Been seeing much talk about this recently so I’ll chip in.

Contrary to popular belief, web development is not just writing code.

It’s problem solving - taking a vague idea from the client and shaping it into something that looks good, is user-friendly (both in storefront and admin), maintainable (e.g. theme updates), and performs well (Speed, SEO).

These skills are not being replaced by AI.

Writing the syntax of code is only half of the job, and it was always my least favourite part. So I’m pretty happy that AI is “taking my job” 😄.

Sure, with Shopify Sidekick many stores are now generating their own sections. That’s good! We can move onto bigger things. The type of work has changed, but not the amount.

Architects before AutoCAD

My grandfather was an architect in the 50’s. They used to draw a lot - with pencil & huge sheets of paper. They could draw with extreme precision and detail. All that was no longer needed when AutoCAD software was invented.

However, architects still exist - the profession didn’t disappear.

That’s all for today. See you next time!
