Hey Shopify DIYers,
These are interesting times, so I thought I’d write a ‘Shopify news’ post.
I used to do these monthly, then I stopped. I think I’ll just write them whenever stuff happens.
In this issue:

🤯 Shopify’s integration with ChatGPT?
OpenAI recently showed off their new product discovery features.
This is a pretty big deal for e-commerce, and worth paying attention to. ChatGPT now has over 800 million weekly active users.
There isn’t much info about how you can get your products featured, but apparently, some Shopify stores have already had sales from ChatGPT.
OpenAI are exploring the idea of a direct product feed, similar to Google Shopping or other sales channels in Shopify. You can sign up to be notified when they release more info.

Considering how enthusiastic Shopify’s CEO is about AI, I’d say there is a good chance of a direct Shopify integration.
🤔 Is SEO dead? (my thoughts)
Many SEO experts are freaking out about AI.
But I think if we look at the big picture, nothing changes that much. It’s just details.
For example, instead of SEO, we are now seeing terms like:
- AIO (Artificial Intelligence Optimization)
- GEO (Generative Engine Optimization)
So people are talking about optimizing their content for AI now.
But isn’t this the same as what we’ve been doing with Google’s bots?
The same principles apply. Write relevant information about your product, and:
- Make it really descriptive so that machines can understand what it’s about
- Label images with alt text so machines can ‘see’ them
- Format using correct (semantic) HTML tags so machines can understand the structure
- Provide structured data schema and product feeds for rich snippets, ads, etc.
So I don’t see AI as that different. SEO isn’t dead, it’s evolving.
🥳 Copy & paste sections to other pages
Finally, one of those features we really needed.
You can now copy a section from a template, navigate to another one and paste it there.
This makes life so much easier when you have multiple product templates.
